Unlocking a Bright Future for Your Kindergartner

Skills Beyond Academics

What do you envision for your child's future? We often think of qualities like problem-solving, integrity, communication, leadership, confidence, and compassion when considering the attributes of a successful adult. At Sandwich Montessori School, our kindergartners don't just learn academics; they cultivate these essential life skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

Think about your own educational journey: When did you acquire executive functioning skills like planning, time management, self-regulation, and problem-solving? Was it in kindergarten? Unfortunately, many adults still struggle with these skills. Montessori kindergarten students, on the other hand, emerge with experiences that nurture these invaluable life skills.

Leadership

Is teaching others a distraction from your child's learning?

Research tells us otherwise. Individuals retain knowledge with remarkable effectiveness when they teach others—up to 90% retention compared to a mere 5% through traditional lectures. In our classrooms, kindergarten students take on leadership roles, teaching and modeling for their peers, and benefiting immensely from this experience.

Kindergarten "Specials"

In addition to classroom leadership, our third-year students engage in enriching activities like pottery and other special projects. They follow an afternoon work cycle and have daily work plans to enhance time management skills and responsibility.

A Love of Learning

During this crucial year of development, children at Sandwich Montessori School gain autonomy in their daily activities, build confidence through Montessori materials, and master skills they've been honing for the past two years. This fosters a genuine love for learning that is often elusive in traditional settings. A core appreciation for school and learning makes even the most challenging subjects more approachable.

Academic Readiness

Before diving into abstract academic concepts, children must develop foundational skills like hand-eye coordination, concentration, visual discrimination, and initiation. The Montessori curriculum is thoughtfully designed to ensure mastery of these fundamental skills, setting the stage for success in any learning environment.

Our Montessori kindergarten year prepares children to become confident learners. Unlike traditional settings that emphasize memorization and test-taking, we focus on developing well-rounded, adaptable learners.

But what about Academics?

Children in our classrooms benefit from a comprehensive curriculum. They delve deeply into specific topics, conduct research projects, learn about continents, oceans, and countries, explore the inner workings of nature, and lay the groundwork for successful reading. Our Montessori teachers seamlessly transition from concrete to abstract learning, ensuring each child's individual readiness to progress.

At Sandwich Montessori School, we don't just meet kindergarten benchmarks; we extend learning to meet the unique needs of every child. We nurture a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.
